WA State Labor Council & OFCCP Introductions - Sumas

On October 31, 2023, OFCCP Regional Outreach Division Coordinator Jennifer Fritzel, Regional Outreach Technical Advisor Edward (Ed) Cunningham, and Regional Outreach Technical Advisor Lawrence White met with the Washington State Labor Council Lead Workforce Development Director, Kairie Pierce to introduce OFCCP and explore collaboration opportunities with both agencies around the Sumas Mega Construction Project. Ed gave an overview of OFCCP's mission, the three laws we enforce and an extensive review of the Sumas Mega Construction Project that will be taking place in the Bellingham/Sumas Washington area.
Ed explained OFCCP's participation goals, and how the Regional Outreach Division is taking a front lead approach to engaging with the community, state and local governmental agencies, pre-apprenticeship and apprenticeship programs and all other stakeholders who could participate in the successful participation and completion of the Sumas Mega Construction Project.
Jennifer added the role of the Seattle Area District Office and the significance of the Area Director and Assistant District Area Director in their roles as it relates to the Sumas Mega Construction Project.
Kairie Pierce explained how the Washington State Labor Council acts as a liaison between and for systems such as schools, apprenticeships, and unions. Acting as a bridge and connector for these entities assist in bringing awareness and accessibility to work and construction projects being performed in the state. Kairie suggested that OFCCP participate in quarterly meetings held by either union as well as non-unions halls to introduce OFCCP and the opportunity as well as the challenges of the Sumas Mega Construction Project.
Kairie agreed to email further information and dates and times of the union meetings, and all parties present agreed to continue this communication in an effort to foster continued collaboration our agencies.
