Opening remarks by Branden Butler, Director of the Office of Labor Standards and Enforcement (OLSE), the Fair Workplace Collaborative meeting.
This bimonthly gathering, facilitated by OLSE staff, empowers community stakeholders to engage with OLSE’s enforcement progress and actively shape its education and outreach programs.
The meeting provides an inclusive platform where diverse perspectives can be shared, ensuring that OLSE’s initiatives are responsive to community needs and aligned with its mission of promoting fair workplace practices.
Program Updates:
1. Wage Theft Enforcement Program: 140 inquiries received since August 1st.
2. Good Faith Restaurant Owners Program: Three restaurants are now moving to enforcement.
3. Workplace Justice Fund Program: Second cohort scheduled to launch in Fall 2024.
4. Board Policy B-74: Janitorial, Landscaping, and Security Services: Policy updates include wage theft judgments over the past three years and expansion to cover tree trimming and right-of-way workers.
5. San Diego County Fair Chance Ordinance: Ordinance became effective on October 10th, with administrative penalties beginning July 1, 2025.
